30 Years of Whole Grains
When we think of Great Harvest, we think "earth", "back to earth", "fresh-ground", "whole wheat", "whole grain", "good for you", "natural" - this is, in large part, what drew us to this business to begin with. Whole grains have been the heart and soul of our business from Day 1. They are our niche, our specialty - they're "what we do"!
As your whole-grain headquarters, we make bread the old-fashioned way, completely from scratch. Our bread includes only natural ingredients and no preservatives. We mill coarsely stone-ground 100% whole-wheat flour in our bakery every day. Every single day.
The WHOLE Kernel
The government's new Dietary Guidelines (2005) spells out clearly that "whole grains" consist of the entire grain seed or kernel, made of 3 components - the bran, the germ and the endosperm. Great Harvest has been living by this "new" standard for 30 years. We grind and use the entire wheat kernel. Always. Why is that important?
Get Your 3 Servings!
3 Servings of Whole Grains very day is as easy as 3 slices of Great Harvest Whole-Grain Bread!
Why Are Whole Grains Good For Me?
According to numerous studies in recent years, and the new Dietary Guidelines, eating whole grains helps control weight. It also offers other health benefits, including a reduced risk of cancer, heart attacks, and diabetes.
The Power of 3!
Now....the 2005 USDA Dietary Guidelines agree with us that whole grains are awesome - in fact, you should consume 3 or more servings of whole grains every day! Click here for the USDA Guidelines.
