Our Story We purchased the Wayne bakery back in 2002 and have been in love with our business and our customers ever since. What brought us to Great Harvest? We knew we wanted to own our own business some day and looked hard to find a great match. A friend told us about this really cool company that she felt shared many of our values. That company was Great Harvest Bread Co., which had grown into a great community of entrpreneurial bakery owners from its beginning as a small bakery in Great Falls, Montana in 1976. So we visited our 1st Great Harvest bakery in Alexandria, VA and the rest is history! We loved the bread, the milling of wheat, the free slices that bring smiles to our customers, the feeling of being close to the earth, the simplicity, creativity, and freedom. Then in 2007, after four years of serving the Wayne community, we decided to try and grow our business and “spread the bread” to another neighborhood in the Philly region. So on February 21st, 2007, we opened our next Great Harvest Bread store in the Ardmore Farmers’ Market (at the Suburban Square shopping district). The Market is a great match for us with a very informed and health-conscious customer base that attracts daily shoppers from Philadelphia and the Lower Main Line. So now you can get your favorite Great Harvest breads, muffins and scones in two great locations. We grind wheat daily and make our own fresh whole wheat flour. We bake our breads and other baked goods from scratch and use no artificial preservatives. Our process creates moist, flavorful breads that taste wonderful and retain their freshness for 8 to 10 days. Nutritionally, these whole grain products just can’t be beat. Each year, we donate over $12,000 in product and gifts to local non-profit organizations for their events and fund raisers. We believe that we should “think globally, but act locally”, and we do. We are proud to play such an active part in the communities we serve. It is a great feeling to sell something you are so proud of. We love that Great Harvest bread is BOTH delicious and wholesome and that our stores are a place where people can have fun and be themselves.
